Also we invite you to take a look at this powerful video. When You Know: Childbirth in the Asylum System was developed from a project mapping the journeys of five women with lived experience of the UK asylum system who worked over a period of years as creative advocates with The Best for Baby Too Improvement Maternity Collaborative in Liverpool, UK. The collaborative’s aim was to improve access and overcome barriers to maternity care for groups experiencing multiple disadvantage.  Joining forces with Liverpool Lighthouse, the maternity experiences of the group was developed first into a play and later into this 40- minute film. Commissioned by Liverpool CCG, the film celebrates the strength and spirit of the five protagonists while exploring the hardships of life in the UK asylum system and the barriers they face in safely navigating maternity care. The film is uncomfortable at times, highlighting the potential human cost of a health system and asylum system that are working at odds with each other.  Intended as part of a learning package for healthcare professionals, the film ends with a call to action- asking the audience what will they do, now they know?
